So, UK-savvy flisters...
What are your thoughts about coach travel, specifically between London and Leeds? Should I do it/consider it?
I'm planning on getting a 16-25 railcard today or tomorrow (Yes,
reposoir, we can get them!), but like, if it's easier to travel by coach, idk...:| I know it's cheaper and takes about twice as much time...I don't know if it's worth paying £20 more to take off two hours of the journey. :3333
+
I am possibly going to have a courtesy name soon. I'll keep everyone updated since this is something that matters a lot to me. :3
+
I discovered Bacardi Breezers Monday night, which was like...a fizzy drink. I like it, but now I am like why would I pay more monies to buy a drink that has alcohol when I could get something non-alcoholic that is just like it. idg the appeal of alcohol, but maybe that's because I have the Asian flush that is potentially carcinogenic and uh extremely toxic to my body.
+
Meme time! :P
If you saw me in a police car, what would you think I got arrested for?
Answer me, then post to your own journal and see what your friends think of you.

A little gem of a quote, brought to y'll courtesy of everyone's favorite US Supreme Court Justice (you get a *LICK* if you guess correctly which one).
"It might be good English to say that the French Revolution 'modified' the status of the French nobility--but only because there is a figure of speech called understatement and a literary device known as sarcasm."

You might be seeing a lot more of that tag down there. I haven't decided yet. I am going to talk to the professor on Thursday about whether I should take the paper as an in progress and turn it in next semester instead, as that would mean I only need to turn in a rough draft by the end of this semester. It might be good grading-wise too... I hear you're off the curve if you do that, but we'll see.
I have started writing it though. I am enjoying myself, which apparently comes out as being very, very bitter. O.o
------
Section 120 has a compelling argument behind it, pitting the fate of entire species against the welfare of a few individual offenders. The argument in favor of lethal take becomes even easier when those offenders are part of “abundant populations of certain seals and sea lions,” preying relentlessly on endangered and threatened fish that are helpless against their voracious appetites, despite human interventions to deter these offenders.
Ironically, for all the talk of preserving species that are listed under the Endangered Species, the primary event that led to the creation of Section 120 did not involve a protected species at all. While Section 120 is often invoked with the purpose of protecting listed salmonids, its invokers leave out one major exception that has little to do with the ESA—salmonids that “migrate through the Ballard Locks at Seattle, Washington.” As often as opposition to the pinnipeds is raised because the sea lions should not be so far upstream in the first place, it is just as often forgotten that the steelhead Section 120 sought to protect in this exception had to be specially excepted because “these fish were thought to lack the biological significance that would justify listing and protection under the Endangered Species Act.”
------
I did take out some of the sarcasm. Really....
On a totally unrelated note, the first song on the new BSB album is so freaking catchy. I keep bouncing along to it while lip-syncing. Thank god I live alone or I would be so humiliated, but I can't help myself. SO CATCHY. (The rest of the album is only okay though; not as good as the last two.)
Anywho, mostly clinging onto my sanity right now (or just trying to stave off permanent insanity). I keep telling myself if I can survive this semester, I will be good. This might be a lie considering how I am applying for a TA position next semester and still am taking five classes, and may very well still be looking for employment then too. But never mind those little details! I will have time to chillax in my third year! Minus the constitutional law requirement. Fun fact everyone... I hear John Yoo is teaching the only constitutional law class next fall (which is when I am planning on taking it). Erm. That will be interesting.
Anyways, for the most part this is my slightly high-pitched 'Me not dead!' entry. I want to write something for my FF.net anniversary, which would mean I need to write something by Sunday (and I don't think the KH category would be interested in a loud shriek of how people are stupid and sea lions scarily intelligent). Probably not happening. But I pulled out my old Zexion-becomes-a-pole-dancer fic. It captures my mood perfectly, especially since he becomes a stripper because he has no marketable skills. It's mirroring my own life!
I haven't decided yet if there will be licking yet.

So I have obsessive-compulsive disorder. I've finally gotten an unofficial diagnosis, which'll almost certainly be backed up by an official one next week. I don't feel any better. I should feel relieved that soon I'll be getting, like, help, after nearly two decades of dealing with this, but instead I'm convinced that it'll come "too late." Too late for what, your guess is as good as mine. Too late for me to pass this semester? Probably. Is that what I'm internally freaked about? Probably not.
So, why is it that I act like an unstable lunatic every few months? It's biological. I don't really believe that but I know it's true. That sort of paradoxical thinking is just something I'm used to. Observe, my lengthy explanation of the miracle of human mind. ( cut for length. also mental illness triggering stuff. also let's get real, it's probably pretty boring. ) So there you go. I'm not just nervous about going back to class, I'm actually terrified. It'd be like walking into a snake pit. I wimp out. I just can't do it. They say it's not a matter of willpower, but I don't know, I've forced it down in the past. I don't seem to be capable of that this time. That freaks me out, and I don't think that fear is due to any sort of rogue chemical reaction.
Public entry for the moment. I might rethink that.

Is anyone doing the ALCL London cosplay event thingy this weekend? I was initially looking at going, months ago, but I think I'm just gonna be too busy. Am open to being persuaded otherwise, but I definitely won't bother if no-one's gonna be there!
Also; anyone likely to do the Grand Cosplay Ball on the 29th? I'm having a look at it, and am more tempted than by ALCL, not least because I have time to actually plan for it. The timing's a bit bleh though, being on a Sunday; odds are I won't be staying overnight (though I have a room offered if I choose to) due to uni being on the Monday and having just missed 14hrs of my 16hr week after YCon. Don't wanna skip too often, y'know?
It does look fun though... so yeah, anyone? On the assumption that I'll be wanting to come back Sunday night, my house is available for those oop north who may want a cheaper train fare and an inexpensive (read: free) place to stay. I'll be out of the door by 8:30am Monday, though, so no lazy morning-after for yas XD (There is also Saturday night availability if wanted!)
(Tickets are £18, entry is 18+ due to licencing, dress code is formal attire or cosplay)

As we all know (or should by now), the quickest way to solve a computer problem is to (after the sturm und drang necessary in finding the phone number, eventually by calling parents and having them look it up online) get on the phone with tech support and try to make the problem happen so that you can better describe it.
I'm pretty sure this is a design element, carefully included so as to maximize time wasted on both ends and make the user look like an idiot.

I woke up at 7am this morning to continue working on programming, but I saw prepuzzle #4 in my inbox and decided to solve it instead. I know this time I should've waited for the rest of my teammates to wake up, but in my defense, due to my lack of consideration for the rest of my team, we are now ranked #1/16 in our school and #25/527 overall (not that it matters at this stage, but vanity! all things in life are vanity!). Plus it was a word puzzle, and I do love my word puzzles. :)
I'm in a really good mood right now. There are times when you know you have to work and you're crying and tearing your hair out because you just can't force yourself to do it. And then there are times when you know you have to work, and you just grin and stretch lazily and do whatever you want. Because it's just school, you know? Do the best you can - work hard, don't get me wrong, work very hard - but remember who you're doing it for.
Similarly, here are some things that have been occupying my time this weekend instead of COS 318:
1) Acting as a tour guide. I don't understand why Asian people are so fascinated with my campus. It's beautiful, I'm not denying that, but to stop every five feet to take pictures? Who would want a picture of Dillon Gymnasium?? It just boggles the mind. In an hour, I managed to get them through about 25% of campus. Not the most awkward experience of my life, but probably only because I was still in shock from having been torn away from my programming so suddenly.
2) I've been posting non-stop about my new Ubuntu partition, and that's because I am so excited about this thing! For those who don't know, Ubuntu is one of the most popular Linux-based operating systems out there. ( For those who don't care, this is an lj-cut. :) )
3) And finally, I have a new cell phone to replace the broken one! It's the first time that I (or anyone in my family, come to think of it) have ever purchased a cell phone. Usually we just get a cheap-o one that comes free with our plan, or some friend of ours has an old one that they're not using anymore. It's a Motorola, and I've concluded from my vast experience of ~5 Nokia phones and 1 Motorola that Motorola phones are really stylish, but Nokia phones are much more user friendly. Seriously, the menu on this thing? sucks. But it's so beautiful that I can't help but forgive it. Just how many levels of superficial does that make me?
I haven't configured it much since I've been busy with Ubuntu - just changed the menu from Spanish to English, really, which was a big relief haha. But I'm really happy with it, and its camera is a million times better than my old one, so maybe I will go out and take some pictures or something. Okay. Should get dressed for class now.
Good morning, world!

Student loan? Check. £100+ on textbooks? Check. Laptop? In progress. Part-time job? Hopefully. Up 'til 1:30am working on an assignment? Check.
I are officially a student XD
While I'm granted immunity; I've taught Cameron a certain... onging event recently.
"Hey Cam, I just got a text off Caisu... lost the game."
"...what game?"
"... *griiiiin*"
"...ARGH! ><"
XD We've gotten each other equally so far, which probably means we're playing it properly ^^
Seriously though. Am quite happy with how the loan's looking at the mo. I finally have spare money to play with! I can actually consider nice things! I have enough money to book a place at Kitacon! (I'm just waiting to see who else is defo going, 'cause I don't wanna be doing the whole loner-on-arrival thing again; two cons is more than enough for that!)
Cosplay to-do list for next year currently stands at... 12, I think. I must truly hate myself OTL;; Have made the template for Rat's crossbow, so hopefully I'll get the wood together for that soon - it's freakin' big, but then it is in the manga, so... ^^; (Side irritation note: The crossbow's size is the only thing that remains constant, I swear. GIVE ME CONTINUITY IN THE WEAPON, DAMMIT!!! TT_TT)

Let me just say that pink pages suck. Other than that, it's a pretty good chapter. I expect MASSIVE payback for this taser thing *if Conan even wakes up*
Anyway, this one was all the set up part. We should see more action and hints as to who Kid is disguised as *if that is even the case* in the next part.
As for Mahou no Iroha!, we have a more direct confrontation between the present and future.

So Disney is one of several corporations that lobbied for measures in the US/International Copyright Treaty that imposes absurd burdens on ISPs and just about slaughters fair use. They're pretty much trying to apply DMCA to other nations. Ugh.
And yet. I keep watching old Disney cartoons to get background on the old stuff because the Epic Mickey video game looks so fucking badass it's crazy. Just look at some of the articles:
http://gameinformer.com/b/features/arch ive/2009/10/15/the-art-of-epic-mickey.as px

I mean, the Wikipedia summary of the plot is horribly written and it still comes out sounding awesome. This game is so meta I just, it has half my heart already despite the fact that it's only coming out for the Wii!
And then I look back at the article and remember why I had so much enmity for Disney before Kingdom Hearts sucked me into this horrible spiral.
And then I look at the picture of the steampunk Goofy and the use of the obscurity of Oswald.
and then i want to cry because i'm being morally yanked in two ;_;

Why is it that my computer crashes when I'm only about two-hundred words away from finishing a fic I hadn't saved at any point? I mean, hey, my computer is a nice computer. Yesterday, I'd have told you I couldn't remember the last time it crashed on me.
I've still got fragments floating around in my head, so I may try to recreate the fic but ... ARGH. Worse things have happened and are happening right now, I know, I know. *sigh*
In case you were curious: the fic in question was a Narnia/Doctor Who crossover with Susan as the Doctor's companion, which I'd pledged to write for
be_themoon in the Fall Fandom Free For All. Which makes the ARGH even worse, because there's no way I can pull off a second plotbunny for that set-up.
On a more cheerful note: thanks to
paperflowered, I'm signed up for Yuletide.
Also:
daria234 wrote me crackalicious Psych-fic for the prompt: Shawn/Gus, Gus gains actual psychic powers.

YES
Now we just have to work to remove that damn Stupak anti-abortion amendment. But still, YES.
Addendum:
God damn it.

I want to know a few things and was hoping there were a few people who knew these.
1. Are there any stats for non-playable characters like Reno and Rufus.
all I have is this and in it Reno seems taller than Rufus (?)
Reno and Cloud Same height (?)
2. How tall is Chaos (as in vincent’s alter ego) will not ask about other parts
3. How about the triplets from Advent’s Children. (Age, height….)
Let me know if this is not allowed in the forum and I'll remove it.
I'm researching for the rest of my fic. Yes, guess who's making guest appearances :D
Admit it, the only thing everyone agrees on is that Nanaki is shorter than everyone.

Title: Perfection: Impossible
Author:

Summary: So Cid has his Vincent and the world is safe, so all should go back to normal right? Wrong. The adventure just begins when these two find out that living with another person opens up a whole new world of trouble, laughs and really great sex!
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Cid x Vincent
Timeline: Post DOC
Disclaimer: We do not in any way own, nor profit from, the FFVII characters - we're just borrowing them. Avatar art is by (the amazing) Spade.
Warnings: Wow, no warnings for once. I can't even really give one for angsty!Vincent. Why does that make me sad...XDDD Well I guess I could warn for Cid's language, but you all know that going in so...*shrugs*.
